“Now Serving: Dignity, Self-Reliance and Courage” isn’t just a slogan at the Daily Diner in Frogtown – it’s their mission. It may have something to do with the fact that the St. Paul’s Union Gospel Mission is the eatery’s parent company. Or, it may just have to do with the fact that they’re some genuinely nice people here.

In the Mission’s efforts to help their clients transition “from dependency to self-sufficiency” they learned they needed to provide vocational training, which is where the diner comes into play.

That program is called Our Daily Bread and it provides real-world job skills and experience through a 12-week training course. Attendees learn every aspect of the restaurant business, from prepping to cooking to serving.

A $1.96 Restaurant Tab?

Right now, at the Daily Diner, a classic diner-style breakfast, lunch or dinner is yours for the whopping sum of $1.96 every Tuesday through the end of the year. Since it’s a way to raise money for the Mission’s work, Team Lindahl is all-in for it.

So, what will you get for your $1.96? You can choose from nine yummy meals. These include:

  •          Breakfast choices include cinnamon roll French toast, Belgian waffle or one egg with pancake or toast.
  •          For lunch, how about a BLT, tuna salad or grilled cheese sandwich with a choice of French fries or coleslaw?
  •          Dinner at the Daily Diner includes a wedge salad, macaroni and cheese or fried chicken.

Then, on December 23, which is the last day they’ll be offering the meal special, the Daily Diner will be serving30 gallons of chili and soup -- FREE.

You’ll find the Daily Diner at the corner of University and Dale in St. Paul’s Frogtown.

Here’s an idea: How about you donate the money you would’ve spent on a meal at regular prices?
