Plymouth-based Dominium is planning to bring 216 affordable apartments to a prime location in St. Paul that’s just blocks from the city’s Green Line. The building site, which is located just 2 blocks north of University Avenue at Territorial Road and Hampden Avenue, was previously owned by Hunt Electric but has been sitting stagnant since earlier this year.
According to developers, the project will include a four-story apartment building with one level of underground parking and 216 units that should appeal to a wide-range of potential residents. Although the land will have to be re-zoned, a proposal has already been submitted to the city of St. Pau that calls for calls for a reclassification to “traditional neighborhood” zoning.
If approved, the new Dominium apartments will sit almost directly behind another former Dominium property, the Carleton Artists Lofts, which are situated right alongside University Avenue.
Other Dominium housing developments in the Twin Cities include the Schmidt Artist Lofts on West 7th Street in St. Paul, and the A-Mill Artist Lofts on Southeast Main Street in Minneapolis.
