The Payne-Phalen neighborhood used to be the home to major corporations, such as 3M and Whirlpool. It's still a major hub within the St. Paul area and provides a home to many businesses.

The area has been home to many successful immigrants with many Swedish, Chinese, Jewish and Thai coming to the area in the early 1900s. The neighborhood still embraces many of the cultural aspects of the immigrants including business traditions and architecture. Lake Phalen is one of the most popular outdoor spots within Payne-Phalen and offers plenty of activity.

Every year, the area is home to a few great events including the Dragon Festival, which is held at Lake Phalen Regional Park. This festival helps to embrace the Asian roods of the community with plenty of music and art.

Along with the Dragon Festival, the neighborhood is home to the Harvest Festival. This is a yearly parade and celebration of the local businesses and the community.

From July to October, the Payne-Phalen neighborhood also provides a Farmer's Market on Tuesdays. Plenty of fresh produce and other products are found at the market.

Local Businesses

The neighborhood is known for long-standing businesses able to stand the test of time. Most have come from hard working immigrants, which pass the business on to the next generation. Many of the area local businesses have adapted as times have changed to ensure they remain as staples within the area.
