Cherokee Heights Elementary School
Cherokee Heights Elementary School students are happy – they no longer have to wear uniforms and are free to now wear whatever they like to school, except for pajamas.
The school serves 339 students in grades Pre-K through 5, with a concentration on communications. The school has a fully-equipped TV studio and the kids produce live newscasts.
School administrators say that new students can expect to find that “Cherokee’s atmosphere is friendly and supportive, with monthly spirit and celebration days that honor our students’ hard work.”
Some of the school’s features include:
- Indoor pool – students participate in American Red Cross swimming classes.
- iMac computer lab – all students spend time here.
- After-school programs
- Tutoring – reading and math help
- Band and violin lessons
The school’s staff includes a behavior specialist, a social worker, a nurse and a literacy coach. In addition to the regular curriculum, Cherokee offers an autism program for students in grades K through 5 and services for the gifted child.
From here, students move on to Humboldt Secondary School, serving students in grades 6 through 12.
