At Hamline Elementary School they believe that “college begins in Kindergarten.” To prove the concept they’ve partnered with their neighbors across the street from the school, Hamline University.
“More than 100 mentors and 120 tutors come to us directly from Hamline, which also provides academic pairings in theater, music, science, anthropology and law,” says the elementary school’s website.
Hamline Elementary serves 277 students in grades Pre-K through 5. The school offers them a computer lab with more than 60 laptops, iPads for students in grades 3 through 5, two gyms and a library.
The school’s staff includes full-time specialists in the gifted and talented program, in physical education and technology.
Hamline has also partnered with the Hancock Recreation Center to host a free after school program that includes archery, an arts program and athletics.
Graduates of Hamline Elementary School go on to Murray Middle School and then to Como Park Senior High School.
