St. Paul MN Historic Real Estate & Homes

st-paul-historic-homesSearch all Historic homes for sale & real estate in St. Paul, MN below.  Three things brought about the birth of the City of Saint Paul, Minnesota: its proximity to Fort Snelling, its location along the Mississippi River and whiskey. We suppose the latter needs a bit of an explanation.

When Fort Snelling was established in 1819, the whiskey trade was just beginning to take off. Fort Snelling officers booted the distillers off federal land. One bootlegger, a French-Canadian nicknamed “Pig’s Eye,” took up his trade 5 miles downstream from the fort to the area that we now know as St. Paul.

From Pig Eye’s decision to settle along that sandy shore of the Mississippi to the formation of the Minnesota Territory in the mid-1800s, St. Paul’s history is reflected in the many vintage properties still standing throughout the city. Purchasing a St. Paul Historic Home

Some folks can’t resist the lure of St. Paul historic homes while others are brought to theirs by fate. Whichever type of homebuyer you are, it’s important to understand that purchasing a vintage home is not the same as purchasing the modern home.

Old homes, by their very nature, contain dated components. Unless a home has been substantially renovated it may have structural problems, bad wiring and a host of other problems, large and small. A professional home inspection is critical in this type of a home purchase and may require additional inspections by a structural engineer, an electrician, a plumber and others.

Whether you long for a circa 1910 classic in the Summit-University neighborhood or your thoughts turn to a 1889 Queen Anne in Dayton’s Bluff, if it’s listed for sale, you’ll find all St. Paul historic homes for sale here on SaintPaulRealEstate.com. Not finding what you're looking for? contact us online and we'll start looking for that hidden gem.

Then there are local ordinances regarding historic homes. There may be strict guidelines that you’ll need to follow which may make rehabbing the home quite expensive.

If all of this doesn’t dampen your lust for a St. Paul historic home, you’ve come to the right place.
