St. Anthony Park Elementary School
It’s natural that education would be a priority for a small neighborhood in which almost 40 percent of the residents hold a graduate or professional degree. It’s certainly true in St. Anthony Park, or SAP to the folks that live there.
St. Anthony Park Elementary School receives an enormous amount of community support as do the three other public schools that serve the neighborhood:
- Murray Middle School (grades 7 and 8)
- Central High School (grades 9 through 12)
- Como Park Senior High School (grades 9 through 12)
St. Anthony Elementary serves 510 students in grade K through 5 with a rigorous curriculum aimed at inspiring a love of learning. It works, too, judging by the school’s test scores. The state average for Reading in the 5th grade, for instance was 79 percent in 2012. St. Anthony’s 5th grade students scored 93 percent.
Specialists in social studies, technology, science, physical education, music and art help round out the curriculum.
Families are an important aspect of a child’s education, an idea St. Anthony administrators fully believe. The school relies on the parents to raise funds for field trips and other activities and to help plan some of the school’s many functions.
From here, students go on to Murray Middle School and then Como Park Senior High.
